Summer Produce in Season

Writer's picture: Monique ReyMonique Rey

Summer, Summer, summertime!

It’s that time of year and here is your list for the produce that is fresh in this season! If you didn’t catch my post about Fall Produce, remember that buying produce in season not only gives you the yummy, ripe, nutrient-dense, goodness - but also the better prices!

Try your local farmer's stand this month and support the hard-working farmers & organic produce!

Here is the list below:

  • Berries (blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries)

  • Corn

  • Cucumbers

  • Eggplant

  • Mango

  • Peppers

  • Stone Fruits (peaches, nectarines, plums, cherries, apricots)

  • Tomatoes

  • Watermelon (and other melons)

  • Zucchini

WATERMELON BUYING TIP:

Like to buy your watermelon whole, but never knew how to pick the best one? Look for your watermelon to be nice and smooth, no bruises, dents, or cuts (if possible).

Next, tap the melon and listen for a dull hollow sound - and you've got yourself a ripe one!

BERRY BUYING TIP:

Choosing the brightest, plump, and most fragrant berries are the ripest. Be sure to check the berries in the container to make sure there is no mold underneath or in between.
